HONORS
CHOIR REQUIREMENTS – Fall 2009
1. Learn and perform the song
Buccinate in neomenia tuba.
It is your responsibility to get the
music and the learning CD from your
Choir Director. They will not be passed
out during the Choir class period. We
will have sessions outside of the school
day to help you learn this piece, but
you are expected to learn this piece
independently as we will not be
rehearsing it during the Choir class
period.
Due the
first six weeks. You will sing your
part for a Choir Director (not in front
of the class) during the week of
September 21st.
2. Type a paper on a
composer of CHORAL works. You may
choose from the list of composers, or
get approval from your Choir Director
for another composer.
a.
At least 6-8 fully developed
paragraphs, typed, double-spaced.
Use “Times New Roman”, 12 point font.
b.
Include a bibliography with at
least 3 sources. At least one source
must be from a published book. (Not all
three sources from the internet).
c.
Include information about the
composer’s CHORAL works, as well as
interesting facts about his/her life and
career. Please use birth/death dates.
d.
Choose a different composer each
semester you are enrolled in Honors
Choir at LHFC/LHHS. Remember, we know
what you have done in the past.
e.
Your paper is due Thursday,
November 5th in your class period.
It will not be accepted late.

3. Concert attendance and
evaluation.
Directions: Go to two (2)
professional or collegiate
choir/vocal performances per semester
and write a 2-page essay about each
concert. A calendar of the kinds of
concerts you should attend will be
posted. Other concerts must be approved
by your Choir Director. Normal church
choir events will not be accepted.
Please submit the programs from the
events along with your essays by
Friday, December 18th in
your choir class. Essays can be turned
in early within each semester.
Use the
following questions as prompts for
writing your two-page essay. Your essay
should be typed using a 12-point font,
double-spaced.

Give a description of this
performance.
2.
What voicings were used in this
program?
3.
Were there any unusual or
interesting voicings used?
4.
Was there variety in the
program?
5.
Was it confined to a certain
style or historical period? Talk about
the styles of music in this program.
6.
What historical period(s) were
represented?
7.
Were there accompanied or
acappella pieces? Both?
8.
Which was your favorite piece and
why?
9.
Which was your least favorite
piece and why?
10.
Have you performed any works by
any of the composers you heard at the
concert? Please include the title(s),
and state any similarities or
differences in the pieces.
REMEMBER – Your composer and concert
evaluation papers can be turned in
early. Also, you will be held to a
higher standard in choir fundamentals,
participation, skills and performance.

whenever possible. Talk about modes and
tonality, tempos and rhythms, textures,
form, volume, etc.
